Topic 4:1 Introduction and Terms Built from Word Parts (Textbook p. 88)

Textbook Activity

I. Introduction to the Respiratory System (p. 88)

Your introduction to the respiratory system includes a case study where you meet Amanda, who has a dark spot on her arm and a previous skin cancer diagnosis. Later in the lesson, we return to the case study and use the terms introduced to complete a medical record documenting her biopsy results.

Read the case study, objectives, and introduction to the respiratory system. (pp. 88-90)

II. Objective 1: Build, translate, pronounce, and spell medical terms built from word parts.

You will learn word parts that relate to the respiratory system and the terms built from them. Perhaps some terms you already know, such as nas/al and many others new to you, such as hyper/capn/ia.

Read the content and complete the Exercises. (pp. 90-108)

Use paper or online flashcards to assist in learning word parts.

Check your answers using the Answer Key, Appendix C, at the back of your textbook.
