Topic 8:2 Terms NOT Built from Word Parts

Textbook Activity

l. Objective 2: Define, pronounce, and spell medical terms NOT built from word parts. (p. 254)

The terms you will learn for this topic are NOT built from word parts but are terms from modern language and other origins.

Diarrhea is a common term related to the digestive system. For most, it isn’t easy to spell. Although we do not list it in the course as a term made up of word parts because it is difficult to translate to find its meaning, it is made up of word parts (dia meaning through and rrhea meaning discharge). However, knowing the word parts may assist in learning the terms.

Read the content and complete the exercises. (pp. 254-260)

Check your answers using the Answer Key, Appendix C, at the back of your textbook.
